Our Role in Habitat for Humanity

Bishop Janes United Methodist Church, in partnership with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is sponsoring a new duplex home in Bernardsville as part of the Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity program. Each church will donate one-half of the $90,000 cost to build the house. Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity provides affordable house for hardworking families Somerset and Hunterdon counties. Bishop Janes UMC will be responsible for recruiting and scheduling volunteer labor crews to work on the home. Everyone can be a volunteer in some way regardless of skill level. We will also help to solicit donations of materials and services from area merchants and professionals.

Directions

From Bishop Janes UMC:

  • Go north on Finley Avenue to Morristown Road (Rt. 202).
  • Turn left and follow Morristown Road through downtown Bernardsville.
  • At this point the name of the road changes to Mine Brook Road (still Rt. 202).
  • The home site is approximately one-half mile past downtown Bernardsville on the right-hand side just across the street from the Bernardsville Municipal building and fire department.

Volunteering – Forms

The Habitat for Humanity planning team suggests that volunteers fill out and turn in their paperwork before construction begins.

Please forward your completed forms to Bishop Janes UMC either via email (bjumc@aol.com) or drop them off to Gail Nicholas at the church office.

Please click on the form(s) your need. The forms are Microsoft Word documents.

For more information, please call Gail Nicholas, Bishop Janes UMC Office Manager, at 908-766-1108 X0.

New Habitat for Humanity International Youth Policy

Due to a new federal law, youth which are under the age of 16 years, are no longer permitted to work on building construction sites.

Youth should note that there are other opportunities for participation, including the Habitat Home Helper program, and a Youth Build program currently being developed. Information regarding these programs will be provided as it becomes available through Habitat International.
